It is amazing to me how much attention any papal health emergency gets in the media. Largely ignored any other time, the Pope's well-being becomes such a huge story, that you have to wonder why he doesn't make the news more often.
I went to Catholic school, and the Pope was rarely mentioned. He's the Catholic Church's version of the Windsors: Fascinating to watch, but not to be taken seriously.
Still, my parochial school experiences can't help but keep me fascinated as well in a way that I haven't been since the most famous Windsor died in that car crash. If the Pope does pass away, I'm excited to watch the process. I know that sounds bad, but it is one of those happenings that occur maybe twice in a lifetime.
It will be interesting to watch.
